FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Feb. 2, 2019) – Senior Muskaan Goyal (Apple Valley, Minn. / Eastview) of the Caltech women's indoor track & field team put her offseason improvements on full display when the Beavers competed at the Northern Arizona University-hosted Mountain T's Invitational over the weekend.
Goyal got things started with an all-time personal-best throw in the shot put, exceeding her career-best mark from three years ago, in addition to last year's mark of 5.78m. This time, the senior hit 7.20m in the shot put to achieve a fifth-place finish before hitting 7.60m in the weight throw, a near two-meter improvement on last year's distance.
"Muskaan really signaled that she's eager to pull what she can from her final season with some big marks in her first meet," Head Coach Ben Raphelson said. "We're looking forward to watching her continue to improve along with the rest of the team."
Goyal, along with newcomer Antonia Liu (Tenafly, N.J. / Bergen County Academies) each improved by a full meter in the final round of the weight throw. Saturday marked Liu's track & field debut for the Beavers, and sophomore Nora Griffith (Santa Cruz, Calif. / Santa Cruz) kicked off her second year with a debut in the 60m.
Raphelson and the Beavers will now turn their full attention toward the outdoor season, where they will begin at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16.
