Turnovers Plague Caltech in Season Opening Loss

PASADENA, Calif.  – LaSierra forced Caltech into 29 turnovers and converted those miscues into 30 points en route to an 81-39 win Monday evening in a non-conference women's basketball match-up at the Braun Athletic Center.

LaSierra jumped out to a 12-5 lead less than five minutes into the game. However, Caltech fought back and got their deficit down to 12-11 with 13:55 left in the opening half. LaSierra (1-6) responded by going on a 15-5 run in taking a 27-16 advantage. That 11-point differential was as close as Caltech would get the rest of the game.

Ashley Baumgaertel recorded 21 points and 15 rebounds – of which 12 were offensive rebounds – in 29 minutes of action to pace the LaSierra attack. Joridan Jones also posted a double-double with a 16-point, 14-rebound effort.

Caltech (0-1) was led in scoring by Theresa Juarez who tallied 11 points in 38 minutes. Krissy Dahl chipped in 12 rebounds and seven points in the season opening loss.
