Caltech Ends Road Play with Loss to CMS

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In their final road contest of the season, Caltech dropped a 66-43 decision to ClaremontMuddScripps in a SCIAC women's basketball contest.

The Athenas (18-6, 8-5) started the game by scoring 11 of the first 13 points concluded by Madeline Barnes's three-point play with 14:51 to play. On Caltech's (0-24, 0-13) ensuing possession Krissy Dahl suffered an injury and the SCIAC's leading shot blocker didn't return. The home squad upped their lead to 18-4 with 12:56 left in the half.

However, the Beavers made a push by scoring six of the game's next eight points to draw within 20-10 with 8:18 left until halftime. ClaremontMuddScripps began taking advantage of the Dahl injury by going inside for much of the remainder of the half as they outscored Caltech 14-5. During that final 8:18 stretch, Caltech was held without a field goal as the Athenas went into the locker room holding a 34-15 edge.

ClaremontMuddScripps built their lead to 47-19 with 12:56 left in the game. The Beavers got their deficit down to 21 points (57-36) with 4:07 remaining after Paige Logan scored five points on back-to-back possessions. However, Caltech couldn't get draw closer than 21 points down the stretch.

Erin Hoops scored a team high 12 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line to pace the Beavers offense. Lisha Li scored 11 points during the final road contest of her career. Logan also added 11 points for Caltech.

Jennifer Rigeion, the Athenas top post player, took advantage of her 6-2 frame as she went 8-for-9 from the field with all 16 of her points coming in the paint.

Madeline Barnes came off the bench to score a career best 24 points during her 9-for-14 shooting performance.
