Beavers Can't Find Winning Formula Against Regals

THOUSAND OAKS, CA – Looking to settle the score from their previous meeting this season, Caltech tangled with Cal Lutheran on Thursday. However, the end result remained the same for the Beavers as they fell 81-48.

Earlier this year the Beavers held a 12-point lead early in the second before the Regals came back and posted a 10-point victory. Caltech was looking to exact a measure of revenge on Thursday evening but it was not to be.

From the outset the Regals never let Caltech grab any of the game's momentum. Holding a 6-5 lead three minutes into the game, Cal Lutheran proceeded to clamp-down on defense and solidify their offensive efforts. The home squad held the Beavers scoreless for just over four minutes while they scored 11 straight points as they upped their lead to 17-5.

Cal Lutheran continued to apply pressure as their lead mounted. The Regals constructed a 44-27 lead at intermission in large part because of an effective offensive effort. They connected on 20 of their 39 field goal attempts (51.3 percent). Cal Lutheran held the Beavers to a 10-for-29 (34.5 percent) first half shooting performance.

The Regals started the second half by scoring on seven of their first nine possessions. Cal Lutheran never let Caltech mount a comeback as they posted their fifth straight win.

A strong inside presence was vital to the Regals as they scored 50 points in the paint. All but nine of the home team's 34 field goals came inside the paint.

Chelsea Jacoby (15 points) and Haley Hodgson (12) led the scoring efforts for the Regals. Jessica Salottolo chipped in an 11-point effort.

Kate Lewis played her best game during the calendar year. The first-year scored a team best 13 points while grabbing five rebounds in 21 minutes of court time. She also corralled a team best three steals.

Stephanie Wong continued her streak of scoring in double figures. For the third straight game, and the fourth time in the last five games, she score at least 10 points after hitting for exactly 10 on Thursday.

The Beavers take the weekend off before hosting ClaremontMuddScripps on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
