Strong Shooting Evening Pushes Chapman to Win

ORANGE, CA – Beginning a two-game swing that concludes the season, Caltech fell to Chapman 84-55 on Thursday evening.

Chapman, who is still in contention for the SCIAC regular season championship, broke up the game with 14:12 left in the first half. The Panthers stretched their 14-9 lead into double figures. Chapman scored 11 unanswered points to push their advantage to 25-9 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the period.

Throughout the remainder of the half the home kept their lead in double figures as they took a 47-30 lead after the first 20 minutes. During the first stanza the home team went 20-for-26 from the floor (76.9 percent) in helping them build their halftime lead.

The Beavers cut their 17-point deficit down to 12 points early in the second stanza but couldn't get within single digits. Chapman's strong shooting effort was too much to overcome.

For the game Chapman made 36 of their 56 field goal attempts to tallying a season best 64.2 percent shooting effort.

The duo of Bridget Connor and Stephanie Wong lead the scoring effort for the Beavers. Connor had a team best 14 points while Wong chipped in a 13-point evening. It is the16th time this season that either Connor or Wong has led the team in scoring.

Chapman's Kimi Takaoka, who was celebrating senior night, missed just one of her 12 field goal attempt en route to her 24-point effort.

Caltech concludes their campaign with a 7:00 p.m. Saturday night contest at Whittier.
