REDLANDS, Calif. (Jan. 10, 2015) – Junior Stephanie Wong (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) hit a season-high four three-pointers in a 15-point effort as the Caltech women's basketball team dropped a SCIAC matchup at the University of Redlands, 100-54, on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs stormed out to the lead in the first half and never looked back, shooting a whopping 60 percent from the field and winning the battle on the boards, 52-19, to improve to 5-8 overall and even their SCIAC mark at 2-2, while the Beavers drop to 0-14 (0-5).
Wong and sophomore Kate Lewis (San Antonio, Texas / Ronald Reagan) kept the Beavers close early, scoring all nine of Caltech's points in the opening five minutes, but Redlands soon took a commanding lead and increased it all throughout the game to the final margin of 46.
Lewis led Caltech with 18 points, four rebounds and three steals, while Wong's 15 points were fueled by her 4-for-8 mark from beyond the arc. Senior Bridget Connor (Albuquerque, N.M. / Albuquerque Acad.) kept her hot streak going with 10 points while junior Ann Chen (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Westlake) and sophomore Michelle Wong (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) each dished out three assists.
Head Coach Sandra Marbut and the Beavers return home to welcome California Lutheran University (8-4, 3-0) on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be available online via live video stream and Livestats, both of which can be accessed through the team's schedule page at GoCaltech.com.
