CLAREMONT, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2016) – Junior Kate Lewis (San Antonio, Texas / Ronald Reagan) delivered her first double-figure scoring game in two weeks with a team-high 17 points for Caltech women's basketball against the SCIAC-leading Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday night.
The Beavers played right with the Athenas through the first quarter, trailing by just three at the break, but the hosts put up 10-point advantages in each of the next two quarters to surge ahead and render Caltech's 17-14 edge in the fourth moot.
CMS maintained a slim lead the entire first quarter but Caltech tied the game less than two minutes into the second at 16-16 on a three-pointer from senior Stephanie Wong (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula). After regaining a five-point lead, the Athenas shut out the Beavers over the final six minutes of the quarter to lead by 13 at halftime and extended the margin to a high of 25 early in the fourth quarter before Caltech's late flurry made the final 67-47.
Lewis poured in her 17 points on 8-for-16 shooting and added nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Wong chipped in 11 points with another pair of three-pointers while junior Michelle Wong (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) made three steals.
