LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Nov. 25, 2018) – Senior center Elizabeth Eiden (White Plains, N.Y. / Holy Child) has been named SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week for her contributions to the Caltech women's basketball team's two-win week, part of the program's greatest start to a season ever.
The senior reached two milestones this week, first when she broke the Caltech career blocks record against the University of Dallas on Wednesday while helping the Beavers to a convincing 68-49 victory. Eiden had three blocks in the win and also contributed 18 key points. Eiden then went on to double-double against Carleton College at the UCSC Thanksgiving Classic and add two blocks to her career total, all while becoming the eighth player in program history to join the 500 rebound club. The senior concluded the week with another strong all-around showing as the Beavers defeated Lewis & Clark Colleges, 71-63. Eiden double-doubled once again with a 24-and-10 line, with seven of her rebounds coming on the defensive end. She also added one block, averaging two per game on the week.
Eiden, along with teammate Samantha D'Costa (San Jose, Calif. / St. Francis) made up two-fifths of the UCSC Thanksgiving Classic all-tournament team, as announced following Sunday's game.
Eiden and the Beavers will next take the floor on Wednesday, Nov. 28 when they host California Lutheran University at 7 p.m. in the SCIAC opener.
