PASADENA (Sept. 12. 2018) – Led by a career performance from sophomore goalkeeper Kali Drango (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Lake Oswego), the Caltech women's soccer team had one of its finest defensive efforts ever against defending SCIAC postseason champion Whittier College on Wednesday evening.
Drango stopped 11 of 12 shots from a threatening Whittier attack that came on especially strong in the second half (13 of 21 shots). A back-four consisting of outside backs Zoe Beatty (Columbus, Ohio / The Wellington School) and Jocelyn Kho (Temple City, Calif. / Temple City) in addition to center backs Nayla Abney (Sewell, N.J. / Deptford Township) and Rachel Sun (Tustin, Calif. / Beckman) helped Drango keep the defending champions off the scoreboard for approximately 82 minutes while the Caltech offense threatened the visitors in spurts. The Beavers' biggest chance came on a run generated by freshman Zoe Rock (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) in the 39th minute, resulting in the second of Rock's two shots on goal.
Head Coach Taylor Houck and the Beavers will travel to the University of Redlands for their next contest, a 7 p.m. game on Saturday, Sept. 15.
