PASADENA (June 18, 2019) – The Caltech women's soccer team has released its schedule for the upcoming 2019 season and have all the makings of a team that can take a big step forward in its third year of existence.
The Beavers will open the season at home against Marymount California University, a team that put up a winning record in the CALPAC last season, on Friday, August 30 at 4 p.m. Caltech will follow up at home with San Diego Christian College on Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. The women's soccer team will next embark on its first-ever trip to the Pacific Northwest when they play road games at Pacific University (Ore.) and Lewis & Clark College on Sept. 5 and Sept. 7 before concluding the three-game road swing at Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, Calif. on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
First-year Head Coach Ellery Gould and the Beavers will then return home for an 11 a.m. contest with the University of California, Santa Cruz on Sept. 14, the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Following the Banana Slugs game, Caltech will open up SCIAC play in Pasadena against visiting Chapman University on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. The Beavers will then play their first SCIAC road game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they travel to California Lutheran University, last year's SCIAC regular season runner-up. One week later, Caltech will wrap the month of September at home with a highly anticipated matchup against defending SCIAC postseason champion Occidental College at 11 a.m.
The women's soccer team will begin a busy month of October on the road against the University of La Verne on Thursday, Oct. 2. before returning home to face the University of Redlands on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. The Beavers will then play a pair of key games on the road, starting with a Thursday, Oct. 9 tilt with Whittier College before facing Pomona-Pitzer Colleges the following Saturday. Caltech gave Whittier a run for its money in both meetings last year, with the Poets eeking out 1-0 victories on both occasions. From there, Caltech will alternate home and road contests through the remainder of the regular season, beginning with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Pasadena on Thursday, Oct. 16. The Beavers will then face the Panthers in Orange on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. before returning home to rematch Whittier on Thursday, Oct. 23. Caltech's final two games of the year will be rematches against the Claremont teams. The Beavers will first travel to CMS on Thursday, Oct. 23 before returning home to host the Sagehens in the annual Senior Day game on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Caltech is poised to build upon a successful 2018 that featured the program's first NCAA win over Oberlin to begin the regular season, in addition to its first All-SCIAC recipient in sophomore Krystin Brown (Sammamish, Wash. / Tesla STEM).
