PASADENA (Oct. 17, 2019) – The Caltech women's soccer team contended well with the depth and experience of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges for some key moments of Wednesday's SCIAC home game.
Freshman goalkeeper Valerie Hetherington (Bozeman, Mon. / Deerfield Academy) came up strong in big moments, particularly as the Athenas' chances began to increase as the game wore on. The freshman made nine stops, giving her 99 on the year and moving her within 16 of the single-season program record with four games to play.
Additionally, the Beavers made all of their chances count, testing the opposing goalkeeper over the full 90 minutes. Junior midfielder Krystin Brown (Lake Forest, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) got off two hard-struck shots on goal while freshman defender Jackie Wang (Winter Park, Fla. / Trinity Preparatory School) had perhaps the team's best chance to score on an all-out rush down the left wing in the first half. While the CMS goalkeeper managed to adjust her positioning and make the successful stop, Wang matched Brown with a second shot on net.
Head Coach Ellery Gould and the Beavers will go on the road this Saturday to face Chapman University where they will be looking to achieve their first SCIAC win.
