Hetherington Hits Single-Season Saves Mark at CMS

CLAREMONT, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2019) – Freshman goalkeeper Valerie Hetherington (Bozeman, Mon. / Deerfield Academy) of the Caltech women's soccer team officially set the single-season saves record during Saturday's game at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

The freshman got the starting nod and played the first 70 minutes of the game, contending with a high-octane Athenas offense while making 11 stops to bring her total to 115 on the year with one game to go. Classmate Eve Fine (Locust Valley, N.Y. / Friends Academy) spent the final 20 minutes in net and made three stops of her own. Freshman defender Jackie Wang (Winter Park, Fla. / Trinity Preparatory School) supplied the visitors' lone shot on goal, testing the keeper in the 74th minute.

Head Coach Ellery Gould and the Beavers will wrap up the third season in the history of the women's soccer program on Saturday, Nov. 2 against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at 11 a.m. in the annual Senior Day game.
