Percin Kicks off SCIACs with Two Records on Same Swim

LA MIRADA, Calif. (Feb. 18, 2016) – Freshman Brittany Percin (Moraga, Calif. / Stanford Online) lowered both her own program records in the 100 and 200 Free leading off the 800 Free Relay for Caltech women's swimming and diving on the first night of SCIAC Championship competition.

The rookie shattered her own record in the 200 Free by more than four seconds, clocking the fastest opening split in the pool at 1:53.17 after opening with a 54.11 first 100 that was almost a full second better than her previous mark.

Earlier in the evening, the 200 Medley Relay placed eighth thanks to a disqualification by CMS, earning 26 points to go with the 24 garnered by the 800 Free Relay team.  The Beavers' 50 points on opening night bettered last year's initial total by 21, while junior Zofii Kaczmarek (New York, N.Y. / Stuyvesant) will give the team another boost after her improvement from 14th place to 11th on the 1-meter diving board, which will become official tomorrow night.

The Friday meet schedule consists of the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, women's 1-meter finals, men's 1-meter preliminaries and 200 Free Relay.
