Tempe, Ariz. (Mar. 30, 2017) – The Caltech women's tennis team is now the ninth-ranked team in the NCAA West Region, up seven spots from its previous ranking while maintaining its nationally ranked status at No. 40. The Beavers were the eighth-highest ranked West Region team in the prior national ranking release.
In addition, sophomores Julia Reisler (Plano, Texas / Greenhill) and Kana Moriyama (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond) made their debut in the regional doubles rankings, coming in at 13th overall. The duo forced its way into the rankings with victories over the top doubles teams at then-nationally ranked Hardin-Simmons University and then-regionally ranked Whitworth University in the team's most recent win.
The Beavers earned their first national ranking in program history in the previous rankings, coming in at 38th in the nation.
Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will have a major opportunity to increase their regional standing yet again when they host the West Region No. 2 (National No. 5) Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (10-3, 3-0 SCIAC) on Saturday, Apr. 8 for a 10 a.m. match. Reisler and Moriyama specifically are likely to face Emily Chen and Maryanne Zhao, the region's top-ranked doubles team.
