Moriyama also won her first match in the Flight A singles draw when she defeated Pomona-Pitzer Colleges' Jay Kim, 6-4, 6-1.
The Beavers also had success in the Flight B singles draw, where sophomore Ankita Roychoudhury (Madison, Conn. / Daniel Hand) won her first round match 7-6 (3), 6-2) and freshman Jennifer Yu (Queens, N.Y. / Stuyvesant) has stormed through the draw, dropping just three games over her first two matches. Fellow rookie Michelle Hyun (Cerritos, Calif. / Gretchen Whitney) picked up a big win over ninth-seeded Elizabeth Johnson of the University of Redlands before falling to eighth-seeded Arianna Chen from Pomona-Pitzer in the second round.
