TEMPE, Ariz. (May 14, 2019) – Senior Kana Moriyama (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond) of the Caltech women's tennis team, already the most decorated player in program history, added another accolade to her growing collection after being named the ITA West Region's Most Improved Senior on the women's side.
The senior has made her biggest strides in recent weeks and became the first Caltech tennis player to win The Ojai Valley Tournament's Division III singles championship back in April. During the regular season, Moriyama posted an overall record of 9-9, with a 6-3 record against conference competition. She was also 11-7 (6-3 vs. the SCIAC) in doubles play with sophomore partner Sarina Liu (Rolling Hills, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula).
Moriyama will be one of two Caltech tennis players competing at this weekend's NCAA Individual Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan and hosted by Kalamazoo College. The women's draw is set to be released on the afternoon of May 23 before first round play begins the following day.
