Beavers Fall to HIU in First Match of 2012

FULLERTON, Calif. – In their first match of the 2012 season, the Caltech women's volleyball fell to Hope International 3-0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-16) on Saturday evening.

The home squad never trailed in the match in posting the straight set win.

Holding an early 8-6 lead in the first set, Hope International scored nine of the next 11 points in grabbing control of the set and eventually grabbing a 1-0 advantage. In the second set the Royals offense converted 19 of their attacks into 14 kills as they posted a .684 hitting mark in taking a commanding a 2-0 lead in the match.

During the third set the home squad scored the first six points and never looked back in sweeping the match.

The duo of Markisha Richie and Summer Mitchell combined for 30 of the Royals' 41 kills.

In her first collegiate match Catherine Jamshidi had a team highs in kills (4) and digs (7) for the Beavers. Katie Ching pitched in a six dig, three kill evening.

The Beavers start the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday evening with a non-conference contest against West Coast Baptist at 7:00 p.m.
