Volleyball Posts Strong Second Set Against La Verne

PASADENA (Oct. 5, 2019) – The Caltech volleyball team came just a few points away from turning the tide against the University of La Verne in the second set of Saturday's SCIAC match.

The Beavers traded blows with the Leopards for the set's entirety, with neither team able to pull away by more than three points at a time. Caltech turned back the first La Verne set point with a timely kill from senior Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire), who returned to the lineup after missing the team's previous two contests. Li went on to post eight kills in Saturday's match, as did versatile sophomore Hannah Fan (Saratoga, Calif. / Saratoga), who also added 11 digs.

Additionally, junior setter Krystyna Maruszko (Redondo Beach, Calif. / Marymount) assisted on 21 of the team's 27 kills and added 11 digs of her own. Sophomore Megan Wang (Henderson, Nev. / Advanced Technologies Academy) and junior Isabel Yang (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) also had 11 digs to tie Maruszko for the team lead.

Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 8 when they travel to California Lutheran University.
