REDLANDS, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2019) – The Caltech volleyball team had its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday at the hands of host University of Redlands. The streak is tied for the Beavers' longest of the season and eight of the team's 10 wins have come in the midst of the two runs.
Caltech felt some fatigue from the previous night's five-set thriller with Occidental College but had its best chance to take a set from Redlands in the very first frame. Despite the Bulldogs getting off to a strong start, the Beavers fended off an astounding seven match points, six of which came on the serve of senior Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon). Classmate Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) notched three of her nine kills during this stretch and went on to finish the match with a team-best .261 percentage. Sophomore libero Megan Wang (Henderson, Nev. / Advanced Technologies Academy) led the Beavers defensively with 16 digs, and needs just 21 more to match last year's total, at the time a single-season record for the program.
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will look to get a new streak going when they host SCIAC contender Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
