Despite 21 Shot Effort; Beavers Fall in Opener

PASADENA, CA - The Beavers opened the 2014 campaign with a 12-1 set back to Siena on Monday afternoon.

Caltech was able to put 21 shots on goal but the Saints defense was up to the challenge. Shalini Majumdar recorded a personal best nine shots on goal to the lead the Caltech charge. Soumya Kannan tallied five shots.

Siena's offense was lead by three different people. Taylor Young, Stepahnie Bundas and Samantha Voelker each scored two times.

Caltech's goal came in the fourth period when Kannan scored on a five-meter shot midway through the period.

Connie Hsueh had a solid game in front the net for Caltech as the junior made nine saves.

The Beavers put seven players in the pool on Monday afternoon who were experiencing their first collegiate water polo action.

The Beavers continue a stretch of four straight home games in four days tomorrow when they host Penn State-Behrend at 5:00 p.m.
