PASADENA, Calif. (Apr. 8, 2015) – Senior Shalini Majumdar (Orinda, Calif. / Miramonte) scored twice for her fifth multiple-goal game to pace the Caltech women's water polo team against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Wednesday evening.
The Sagehens left with a 17-3 victory to improve to 13-9 overall and remain undefeated in the SCIAC at 5-0, while the Beavers are now 0-15 (0-5).
Pomona-Pitzer took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter before junior Soumya Kannan (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M Gunn) struck for Caltech's first goal of the evening. The Sagehens netted two more in the quarter, another three in the second and two in the third to lead 14-1 heading into the final quarter. Majumdar bagged both her goals in the fourth, while sophomore Sasha Zemsky (Mount Kisco, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) made a pair of saves in net, but Pomona-Pitzer would score three more by the final whistle. Kannan added an assist, two steals and drew three exclusions, while senior Emily Shih (Rockville, Md. / Montgomery Blair) assisted on a goal and sophomore Mary Boyajian (Sun Valley, Calif. / Village Christian) made four steals.
Head Coach Pat Beemer and the Beavers will host Whittier College (15-13, 3-1) on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 11:00 a.m. in their final home game of the season. The team will also bid farewell to its five departing seniors in Monica Enlow (Suwanee, Ga. / North Gwinnett), Liz Lawler (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit), Majumdar, Shih and Jing Xu (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos) as they play their final game on campus.
