PASADENA (Mar. 22, 2018) – Junior Katie Johnston (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore) registered three points for the Caltech women's water polo team against visiting Chapman University on Thursday morning.
Johnston scored the Beavers' final goal on an unassisted powerplay with just three minutes to go in the game. She also assisted on goals scored by junior Gemma Takahashi (San Jose, Calif. / Leland) and freshman Elaine Lowinger (North Miami, Fla. / Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Biscayne Bay Campus) in the second and third periods. Lowinger's goal in the third period, like Johnston's also came on the powerplay as Caltech went 2-for-5 with a man advantage. Additionally, senior Devi Ganapathi (La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) notched the Beavers' third assist when she dished on a goal from sophomore Samantha D'Costa (San Jose, Calif. / St. Francis) in the first period, which tied the game at one goal apiece. Takahashi, meanwhile went a perfect 4-for-4 on sprints. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Kreider (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park and River Forest) played the entire rain-filled game and finished up with seven saves against a deep Panthers team.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will travel to Whittier College for an 11 a.m. game on Saturday, Mar. 24.
