Johnston Scores Twice at Whittier

PASADENA (Mar. 24, 2018) – Junior Katie Johnston (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore) added two more goals to her team-leading total at Whittier College on Saturday afternoon.

Johnston's goals came in tandem in the third period, with the second coming on a five-meter penalty shot. Perhaps just as notably, Johnston and the Beavers held the host Poets to 12 goals in the strongest defensive effort Caltech has put forth this season since the season opener at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. The Beavers combined for 14 steals and sophomore Gabriella Chan (Colleyville, Texas / School for the Talented and Gifted) and freshman Elaine Lowinger (North Miami, Fla. / Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Biscayne Bay Campus) each played a part in the total with three steals each. Lowinger added a goal in the second period and junior Gemma Takahashi (San Jose, Calif. / Leland) had the Beavers' fourth and final goal after Johnston dumped in her second in the third frame.

Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will have some time to recuperate before returning home on Saturday, Mar. 31 to meet CMS at 10:30 a.m.
