REDLANDS, CA – The Caltech cross country kicked off the season with shorter than normal races at the Redlands Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The event started off with a 4.5K run for the women. Stephanie Reynolds ran the course in 18:23 to finish 13th overall in the 57-person field. Her time was a 13-second personal best in three Redland Invitational races. Marlyn Moore also set a personal best time on the course by finishing in 19:15. She crossed the line as the Beavers second finisher while improving her time on the course by 56 seconds.
Juliette Becker crossed the line in 20:22 as Caltech's third finisher. Sophomore Rachel Thorp's time of 20:27 qualified her as the fourth finisher among Beaver harriers. Rounding out the top five for Caltech was Emily Mazo. In her first collegiate race she completed the course in 21:07.
During the men's 6K race Aditya Bhagavathi finished 10th overall with a time of 19:54. The sophomore's time was a 21-second improvement from his race on the same course last season. Ian Koss had the second best time among Caltech runners as he finished in 20:40 which placed him 19th overall in the 59-person field.
A trio of Beaver runners crossed the line with seconds of each other to round out the top five Caltech finishers. Eliot Simon completed the race in 21:32 to nudge out Alex Angemogiannis by just four seconds. Mike Ignatowich was right behind both of them as the graduate student finished in 21:43.
