NEW ORLEANS (Sept. 17, 2019) – The Caltech women's cross country team has jumped to fifth in the latest NCAA Division III West regional rankings from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Beavers now hold the highest regional ranking in the history of the program after previously setting the all-time mark in this year's preseason rankings when they debuted at ninth. The women's team earned top-five distinction thanks to a dominant team victory at the 2019 Redlands Invitational and a series of strong runs in Riverside this past weekend, headlined by junior Claire Hu (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M. Gunn)'s 6K program record (22:16.5). Caltech's latest ranking is also an eight-spot improvement from last year's regional championships, making them the region's most improved team one month into the season.
Head Coach Ben Raphelson and the Beavers will have two weeks ready themselves for further improvements at the Mustang Challenge in Santa Clarita, set to take place on Saturday, Sept. 28.
