Dear Members & Colleagues,

We are excited that the Department of Athletics, Physical Education & Recreation (APER) has officially adopted a new name: Athletic Recreation and Instruction (ARI).  As President Rosenbaum announced recently.  This new designation reflects and honors the program's comprehensive mission:
 
"To encourage participation in a balanced program of individual and group activities through a variety of intercollegiate, physical education, club, intramural, and informal recreation activities intended to meet the needs of all members of the community."
 
Department Mission and Commitment
The mission of ARI remains rooted in the holistic development of our community. We aim to foster the physical, social and emotional growth of every member of the Caltech community and support the cultivation of a sound mind in a sound body.
  
The Caltech Recreation Program
Four goals guide everything we do:

• Ensure a safe environment, we maintain our facilities to the highest standards, ensure equipment is in proper working order, and follow best practices in supervision and safety.
• Ensure excellent service, we provide programs and experiences that are fun, social, welcoming, inclusive, consistent, ethical and fair.
• Promote personal wellbeing, we offer a wide range of recreational activities that support individual fitness, group engagement and lifelong healthy habits.
• Develop leadership, we provide meaningful opportunities in a professional and educational environment through student-led programs, collaborative decision-making, and a focus on personal responsibility.

 
We look forward to continuing our service to the Caltech community under the ARI name and thank you for being a vital part of our evolving and growing recreation family.
