Recognizing that active bodies support active minds, the Department of Athletics, Physical Education & Recreation offers resources and programs that promote the health and wellbeing of the entire Institute. The Braun Athletic Center is where our community comes together to train, play, and get fit, as well as cultivate new skills and broader perspectives.

Caltech provides Braun Athletic Center membership as a benefit to the Institute community. Our fees are well below that of peer universities and the local marketplace, accommodating a range of ages, interests, and fitness levels. Take advantage of this opportunity—become a member!

 

ELIGIBILITY & FEES

Caltech-enrolled current undergraduate and graduate students can swipe their ID to enter.

The following groups may purchase annual/semi-annual memberships at posted rates:

Caltech current student spouse/dependents, either individually or as a family

Caltech current faculty, staff, Caltech Guests and their spouse/dependents, either individually or as a family

Caltech retirees and their spouse

Caltech alumni and their spouse/dependents, either individually or as a family.  

JPL current FT staff and their spouse/dependents, either individually or as a family

JPL postdocs.

JPL retirees and their spouse. 

Select Caltech external affiliates and their spouse.

Current Caltech Associates Member and their spouse/dependents, either individually or as a family

Current SURF/WAVE Caltech Interns, short term membership during summer months only

Other Eligible Member - Huntington Library FT Staff and Select Fellows and their spouse, Polytechnic School FT Staff and their spouse, Carnegie Observatory FT Staff

Immediate Family includes:  Student/Employee, spouse, and up to seven dependent children living in the same household, age 25 & younger.

 

To verify membership eligibility and purchase:

Caltech Student, Staff, Faculty, Guest memberships and their spouses/dependents can be verified by front desk staff at time of purchase. Caltech External Affiliate memberships and their spouses can typically be verified by front desk staff at time of purchase.  If you have questions, or would like to add your family members, and/or expedite your membership purchase, please email recmembership@caltech.edu with your name, eligibility category, and family members you wish to add.

The below memberships must be pre-verified before every renewal by the appropriate HR person listed below (Alumni and all Retiree category members must verify only for their Initial membership, not for every renewal). Please contact them with your name, eligibility category, and family members you wish to add. Once membership eligibility is verified by your organization's HR staff, the gym’s front desk staff will be notified and will be able to assist you with membership purchase.

Once verified, all membership sales will be made at the front desk during regular open hours.

GUESTS

Daily Guest Fee $10

Member hosts must check in guests at the front desk. Host must be present at the desk at time of sale. The guest fee is $10 per guest per day.

Any current member may host up 3-4 guests per visit.  The host is responsible for the actions and conduct of a guest and may be penalized for any misconduct.

Guest and Member are required to enter and leave the facility together.

Caltech Faculty, Staff, Post Docs, and Caltech Guests (and their spouse/dependents) who are eligible to purchase a membership may pay the guest fee and "self-host" themselves with verified lookup of eligibility.  Membership eligible "self-hosted" guests are not allowed to host other guests.

JPL, Alumni, Caltech Associates, Retirees, and other External Affiliates may not self-host.

Since dependent children 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult, they may not sponsor a guest. 

Supervision of Minors Policy

ONLY CREDIT OR DEBIT ACCEPTED FOR DAILY FEE

Membership fees may be paid with Visa, Discover, and MasterCard.

*Fees entitle all members to use the facilities and attend fitness classes at no additional charge.
 

ENROLLMENT OPTIONS

New members have two options for enrollment:

Payroll Deduction: Caltech faculty and staff may enroll online through access.caltech for individual, spouse/partner/dependent, or family memberships. The Caltech ID will double as the athletic center membership card for employees. Spouses/partners/dependents and families must visit the Braun Athletic Center to have their membership cards printed. Family members may have a gym membership card printed at the front desk upon first visit.

OR

Annual/Semi-annual payment: New members may enroll by verifying eligibility with their correct verifier, and once confirmed, the staff at the front desk of the Braun Athletic Center can assist you with payment and membership card.
 

RENEWAL FOR CURRENT MEMBERS

All members (except Payroll Deduction, Caltech Alumni and all Retiree members) must be re-verified for every renewal. Please see above verification method and re-verify with the correct person for your membership. Payment may be credit/debit card at the front desk once verification is confirmed.
