You are always welcome to use an unused area, being aware that a scheduled group may arrive and take priority in the moment. All of our facilities are open to our members and the only expectation is that you take care of the facility and leave it in the same condition you find it and report any broken or missing items to the welcome desk. Please do not allow non-members or unregistered guests to use our facilities for safety and liability reasons. A full list of our facilities and a description of each space can be viewed on our
Facilities page. Our facility schedules can be accessed
here.
Members are always free to move to a gymnasium or small court to find personal space to exercise or move. We ask that you always return any equipment that you may take with you out of the main exercise rooms. We have actively reduced outside groups at Caltech over the past ten years in order to always have some available space for our members to exercise or find space to move!

Guests and Minors
We are happy to have your guests and dependents come with you to use our spaces. These populations require different levels of liability waivers and supervision. These limits and boundaries exist to help protect Caltech and also ensure that we all have appropriate access to use our facilities. Impromptu groups of more than 3-5 guests make it difficult to ensure that our facilities remain open to all members equally. Each quest must be actively hosted by a member and may not extend their visit after the member departs.
The guest fee is $10 per guest per day, payable at the welcome desk when you arrive. Each guest will sign an acknowledgment of risk and liability release waiver prior to entry.
Academic departments may sponsor and pay for short term guests for up to a week with proper verification from the Division Administrator, please see the Associate Athletics Director for Physical Education & Recreation to make arrangements.
Minors require specific supervision at all times. Minors under 12 must be directly in the company of their member at all times and not left unsupervised at any time. Our complete Supervision of Minors page can be accessed
here.
Personal Trainers and Outside Instruction
Caltech is responsible under business use tax code to be careful about how our facilities are allowed to be used in the generation of business revenue. Some members utilize outside instructors to assist in their workout. This is primary utilized in our weight rooms. Outside instruction is possible in other areas, but we must register the instructor in advance and hold to certain criteria: 1) they must provide a full professional resume 2) they must have their own insurance and name Caltech hold harmless 3) they must pay a small fee to ‘rent’ the space (that they are profiting from). These requirements must take place prior to any instruction taking place. No outside instructor may bring non-members on their own to the Center for instruction. If a member wishes to have a guest also take a lesson, the member must pay the guest fee. The Associate Athletics Director for Physical Education and Recreation, Heather Morgan (
hmorgans@caltech.edu) can answer your questions in this regard.
