Overview
The mission of the Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation is to develop the physical, social, and emotional skills of Caltech students necessary for the cultivation of a sound mind in a sound body. The Department seeks to encourage participation in a balanced program of individual and group activities through a variety of intercollegiate, physical education, club, intramural, and informal recreation activities intended to meet the needs of all members of the community. The Department of Athletics, Physical Education & Recreation is committed to providing equal opportunity to all students, faculty, staff and other members, in accordance with the department and Division of Student Affairs' mission statement. Please visit our Student Resources page for additional information and diversity/LGBTQ+ inclusion policy.
It is the goal of the Caltech Recreation Program:

- To ensure excellent service, we must provide programs and procedures that are fun, social, welcoming, inclusive, consistent, ethical and fair
- To promote personal wellbeing, we must provide a comprehensive program of recreation emphasizing individual fitness, structured group activities, team sports and healthy lifetime pursuits.
- To develop leadership, we must provide opportunities in a professional, educational setting through student-directed programs, collective and collaborative decision-making and personal responsibility.
