Fitness and Wellness

Caltech Recreation provides group exercise and instruction in a safe and fun environment for Caltech. The recreation center is located south of the main campus where we offer a wide variety of fitness programs and classes to enhance your physical and mental well-being while meeting your fitness goals. There are many benefits to participating in fitness activities for people of all ages and abilities. Some of the benefits include: increase in energy, making new friends, reducing stress, and lowering your risk for disease. Group fitness classes are offered as part of the basic membership cost.

Group Fitness Classes

Caltech Recreation offers a variety of fitness classes, offerings throughout the year include: strength, spin, HIIT, barre, Pilates, water aerobics, and yoga. All of our classes run 50 minutes and take place in the multi-purpose room, a racquetball court of the Braun Athletic Center, or in our shallow end, Alumni Pool.

Registration is required for all classes and registration opens up 48 hours before the scheduled class time. Registration is required for all classes as the maximum number of participants per class is 16-25 depending on the class.

Group Fitness class registration can be found at https://rec.caltech.edu under Group Fitness.

Personal Trainers for Individual Exercise Instruction

If you seek individual instruction, please consider connecting with the following approved instructors. They are not employed by Caltech for this instruction, but they have been reviewed and registered to work here with our members. Each instructor has their own fee and outside arrangement with the member. If you are seeking instruction in other exercise, or sport related areas please review the next section to understand our process for allowing that. All instruction must be registered by connecting with the recreation/facility team to ensure we are protecting Caltech and each member. Personal Trainers and Outside Instruction

Caltech is responsible under business use tax code to be careful about how our facilities are allowed to be used in the generation of business revenue. Some members utilize outside instructors to assist in their workout. This is primarily utilized in our weight rooms. Outside instruction is possible in other areas, but we must register the instructor in advance and hold to certain criteria: 1) they must provide a full professional resume 2) they must have their own insurance and name Caltech hold harmless 3) they must pay a small fee to ‘rent’ the space (that they are profiting from). These requirements must take place prior to any instruction taking place. No outside instructor may bring non-members on their own to the Center for instruction. Please contact assistant director of athletic facilities or for recreation for more information.
