ARI Needs Your Input!
As we embark on a nationwide search for Caltech's next athletic director to lead the renamed Athletics, Recreation, and Instruction (ARI) organization, we seek input from all members of our community. We invite your thoughts on the characteristics, focus, and values for a leader who will continue to enhance the campus athletic, recreational, and wellness experience of Caltech's students, faculty, postdoctoral scholars and staff.
Please share your thoughts via the survey here:

South Field Maintenance
The
South Field will be closed through the end of August. During this time the
track may have limited use as crews during the removing the old sod and installation of new sod. This is to allow the new grass to properly establish. We do ask that all members refrain from getting on the grass.
There
will be 8 parking spots in on the southeast side of the Brown surface lot which will be blocked off to accommodate storage containers for the removed sod and to provide access for the semi-truck delivering new sod. Parking in this lot will still be available but limited.
As a reminder, you may park on the
second level of the parking garage in the
90-minute gym parking spaces. If those are full, please use a regular parking space and request a
temporary parking pass from our operations staff.
The field will remain open until July 7. We appreciate your patience as we work to maintain a high-quality playing surface.

- We now have a designated scooter parking area located in Brown Gym, directly across from the Welcome Desk. Please help us keep the space safe and welcoming for everyone by parking your scooter before entering. Thank you for your cooperation.
Gym Etiquette
- Help us in creating a welcoming environment for all users of our facility. To help maintain a respectful and comfortable environment for all members, please be mindful of phone use while in the facility.
- If you're watching videos, use headphones or keep the sound off. When talking on the phone, keep your voice low or move to a non-workout area. Please avoid sitting on equipment to text, watch videos, or make calls—allow others to work in.
- In the locker rooms, photos, videos, video calls, and any form of recording are strictly prohibited. Thank you for helping us create a positive space for everyone.
Notice of Theft
- Reports indicate that there has been an increase in thefts on campus. Individuals should stay vigilant and keep a close eye on personal items while in public areas. Caltech Security has increased both foot and vehicle patrols around campus. As a community we share the responsibility of securing property, doors, and reporting suspicious activity. Please contact Security at 626-395-5000 to report any suspicious activity. Your safety is our primary concern.
- When you leave your room or office, even for a moment, always keep your doors and windows locked. Do not prop open or disengage the locking system on the door or windows.
- Never leave your purse, wallet, book bag, laptop, cell phone, earbuds, or other property unattended even for a moment in a public setting. If you must leave your property, leave it with someone you know, not a person studying or working in the area. Before you walk away from your property, remember: "Stop, think and secure."
- Never allow anyone you do not know to enter a locked building when you are entering or exiting. Do not let people "piggyback" or "tailgate" with you. If someone you don't recognize does enter an area not open to the public, call Caltech Security at 626-395-5000 immediately. Do not confront them or ignore them.
- Do not hang your pocketbook or bag over the back of your chair while you are in a dining establishment or other public place. Do not place your pocketbook or bag under the table out of sight.
- Keep an updated list of all personal property that have serial numbers, especially your personal electronics and bicycles. Please note the MAC addresses on any technology that has access to the internet. This information may help detectives with their investigation.
- Download the "Find my iPhone" app (works for Mac laptops as well) .
- Register your bicycle with Caltech Security's Bicycle Registration Form
- When locking your bicycle, use a steel "U" lock rather than a cable lock. Lock the frame and tire together to a stationary object. If the bike has an easily removable seat, we recommend you remove the seat and take it with you.
- If you are the victim of a theft, report it immediately to Caltech Security at 626-395-5000. We are available 24 hours a day. No crime is too small to report to us.
