Women’s Swim & Dive Defeats Fresno Pacific

PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Women's Swim & Dive opened its regular season with a 166-56 victory over Fresno Pacific on Saturday afternoon at Braun and Alumni pools on the campus of Caltech.

Caltech women won 12 of the 13 events behind two all-time top-10 swims from first-year Tingting Luo (Warren, N.J. / Pingry School). Additionally, four different Caltech swimmers won more than one event on Saturday.

Luo swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.51, the seventh-fastest Caltech time ever. Her 200-yard breaststroke time was 2:32.63, which is the sixth-fastest time in Caltech program history. Luo finished first in both races on Saturday.

Junior Elizabeth Ma (Burien, Wash. / Mount Rainier) won both the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.77) and the 400-yard IM (4:44.54). The butterfly time improved on her existing sixth-best Caltech all-time performance by a margin of three seconds.

Sophomore Alyssa Kwon (Derwood, Md. / Montgomery Blair High School) won swimming's shortest and fastest event, the 50-yard freestyle in 25.71. She also won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.87.

Beaver junior Ellie Wang (Houston, Texas / Phillips Exeter Academy) was victorious in both the 200-yard backstroke (2:20.26) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.93).

First-year Joy Liu (Torrance, Calif. / California Academy of Mathematics and Science) won her first collegiate 100-yard butterfly race with a time of 1:03.54. Sophomore Lucia Zhang (Irvine, Calif. / The Loomis Chaffee School) swam the 500-yard freestyle in 5:39.58 to win the event.

Kwan, Ma, Zhang and senior Karen Zhou (Trophy Club, Texas / Byron Nelson) combined to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:49.13. Senior Allison Xin (Broomfield, Colo. / Stargate Charter), Luo, Liu and senior Isabel Xu (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) combined to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.39.

In terms of personal improvement, junior Rachel Nazareth cut 10 seconds off her personal-best in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming the race in 2:42.49.

Such early-season results bode well for a bright 2026-27 Caltech Women's Swim & Dive season. The team opens its SCIAC season with a dual meet at Whitter College in Whittier, Calif. on Saturday Nov. 7 at 10:30 a.m.
