Hello everyone! Meet Tim Ranalli our May member spotlight, and one of our awesome members. Get to know Tim a little better as he talks about his interests and experience. Â
• Tell us a little about yourself and how you are affiliated with Caltech. My name is Tim Ranalli and I have been at Caltech since 1987. I started in the Central Utility Plant as a Service Mechanic and from there held many different roles at Caltech. Currently I am the Director of Asset Management and Services for Caltech Facilities.
• How long have you been coming to the Caltech gym? I have been going to the gym since before the new Braun Gym was built. I started in the late '80s or very early '90s, when we used to work out and then play basketball on the outdoor courts.
• What is your favorite form of exercise or movement? Six days a week I enjoy lifting weights, but I also enjoy playing racquetball with others on campus. The courts are great.
• Why is maintaining an active lifestyle important to you, and how has it impacted your life? Being active is more of a mental necessity for me than a physical one. It helps me stay relaxed and able to perform in a very fast-paced operation like Facilities. A second benefit is the physical aspect. I can still run, jump, and remain flexible enough to play football and baseball with my grandkids. I feel good, and I'm hoping to stay active well into my 80s.
• Why do you like the Caltech gym, and what's your favorite part about the Caltech community? First, the athletic staff are outstanding! Second, the convenience of using the Institute's facilities cannot be overstated. Over the years, I have changed both my workouts and schedule several times, and the flexibility to do so is fantastic. Whether it's swapping running for swimming, weightlifting for Pilates, or simply changing the time you visit from early morning to late evening, the gym accommodates it all. It also offers a variety of targeted classes, and if you need a trainer, there are recommended professionals who can help you achieve your next goal. The Caltech community is the reason I have stayed at Caltech so long. The people are the #1 thing that makes Caltech, Caltech. Exercising while talking to professors and students who are truly gifted people is an experience I would never trade and will cherish forever.
