Check out our June Member Spotlight!

Hello everyone!  Meet Alec Ingle for our June member spotlight, and one of our awesome members.  Get to know Alec a little better as he talks about his interests and experience.
  • Tell us a little about yourself and how you are affiliated with Caltech.
My wife Cynthia and I joined Caltech Associates in 2007, shortly after we returned to LA after 10 years in Nassau County, New York. We immediately took advantage of the many, varied and interesting programs and tours that CA offered. It was through CA that we were introduced to the CalTech Y and subsequently the CalTech gym.
  • How long have you been coming to the Caltech gym?
Over the years we have chosen to support the Y and I have been a steady user of the Braun gym. More recently Cynthia has also taken up an exercise program in Braun.
  • What is your favorite form of exercise or movement? And why is maintaining an active lifestyle important to you, and how has it impacted your life?

I was advised by my internist at age 62 to concentrate on weight-bearing exercises to address declining bone density as well as some cardio. Clearly, that regimen has benefitted my overall health and now at age 84, I am still able to maintain an active lifestyle.

  • Why do you like the Caltech gym, and what's your favorite part about the Caltech community?

What makes these exercise days more enjoyable is the opportunity to exercise alongside the many friends we've made with students, CalTech employees, JPL active and retirees and a few retired physicians.
