We are announcing that our beloved climbing instructor, John Herbison, will no longer be working with us here at the Caltech gym. As we begin the search for a new instructor, the top rope climbing program will be temporarily on hold. I spoke with John as he left California to return home to Pennsylvania. Here's what he had to say. 

How long were you here with us at the gym?

4 years. 

What were some of your favorite moments here at the gym as a patron and climbing instructor? 

I liked watching people struggle over the course of weeks and months to accomplish something hard. I also liked to see them taking the time to relax. To me, that dichotomy is what a climbing gym is all about.

What's next for you? 

I'm going to manage another climbing gym in the Philadelphia area.
