Assistant Coach Guillermo Yanes joined the Caltech swimming & diving staff in Fall 2019 after spending the past five years working for the City of Los Angeles as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and novice swim team coach with the LA84 Foundation.

Yanes swam at the University of La Verne for the last two years of his swim career, during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years and worked as a volunteer with the team following graduation. His primary events were the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 200 IM. Yanes went on to graduate from La Verne with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Physical Education.

Yanes began his competitive swimming career in the spring of 2014 at Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC) where he completed two seasons of swim and water polo. During this time, he became an A finalist in the South Coast Conference Swim and Dive Championships in the 200 breaststroke.
