Research and STEM Activities
Was named a Harry B. Gray summer undergraduate research fellow (SURF), conducting research under Professor George Rossman on the effects of electromagnetic radiation on mineral properties such as color; examined the presence of hydrous components in typically anhydrous compound; investigated the near and mid-infrared transparency of sulfide minerals such as pyrite and sphalerite; built libraries of infrared spectroscopy data for the identification of rare minerals... Interned with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) under the guidance of Brian Rodriguez and Doug Yager, conducting magnetotellurics surveys for tracking acid mine drainage in Silverton, Colorado... Aided in the remediation and monitoring of several EPA Superfund mine sites in the Bonita Peak Mining District... Maintais an extensive Colorado mineral and micromount collection.

Likes being a Caltech athlete because it provides a break during the school day where he can run with his teammates.
