Research and STEM Activities
Conducted individual research with RICE professor Natasha Kirienko; wrote 27-page thesis on Antimicrobial Resistance; constructed a data analysis model to rank countries based on their likelihood of inducing antimicrobial resistance... Previously served as an Earth Science Researcher for NASA, STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (Summer High School Intern Program); assisted NASA researchers and scientists by collecting and analyzing both earth science and satellite observations; observed and conducted experiments on mosquitos, analyzing their Oviposition and developing characteristics.
Prior to Caltech
Academic Honors: Class Valedictorian, National AP Scholar with Distinction, AP Scholar Award, National Hispanic Recognition Program (Excellence in Academic Achievement).
Athletic Honors: Has run two marathons, four 10ks, four 5ks, six half-marathons, two 30ks, and three 15ks.
Personal
Son of Norma and Javier... Younger brother to Priscilla and Alejandro... Has played clarinet for six years... Knows how to ride horses (charreadas)... Chose Caltech because of the excellence in academics as well as the welcoming and collaborative environment which is unique to its campus.
