Dave Briski

Dave Briski is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Caltech men's basketball program.  His duties consist of overseeing two volunteer assistants, managing scouting and recruiting assignments, directing official overnight visits and assisting in all other aspects of the program, including day-to-day administrative functions.  He also helps direct Doc's Basketball Academy and the SoCal Senior Showcase held at Caltech featuring top area Division II and III seniors.

Briski has helped elevate the program to a record seven SCIAC wins in 2015-16, which bettered the program's total conference wins over the previous 45 years combined, and a fifth-place finish in the conference - the best since winning its only title in 1953-54.  His scouting reports and defensive strategy in particular contributed to the team ranking among the top 100 in Division III in scoring defense and just outside the top 100 in field goal and three-point percentage defense, as well as program-record top-3 finishes in the SCIAC in field goal percentage defense and rebounding margin.

Also tasked with primary player development responsibilities, Briski helped three Beavers earn Second Team All-SCIAC honors and another two earn the esteemed Ted Ducey Award.  The program also boasts an Allstate NABC Good Works Team honoree and only the second CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree in history.  His role in recruiting helped yield the program's highest-ever quantity of recruited student-athletes.  He also crafted and passed legislation instituting the first full online film exchange policy within the SCIAC men's basketball coaching group.

He has worked and attended a number of camps and clinics, including the Hoop Group Academic Elite Camps at Albright College (2012-2015), Hoop Mountain Academic Elite Camps at Brandeis (2012-2015) and UCSD (2013-2015), Columbia Elite Camps Sessions I and II (2015), attended Adidas Super 64, Fab 48 and Big Foot Hoops all in Las Vegas (2013, 2015) in addition to various local AAU and high school games and tournaments.

Out of season, Briski currently conducts individual training for seven youth players, five high schoolers and one college student-athlete.  He has also assisted with various gameday staffing duties, including serving as an audio commentator for baseball and interim SID for three months.

A four-year student manager for the University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team, Briski graduated in May 2012 with a B.S. in Kinesiology: Sport Studies. While at UNH, he worked directly with the coaching staff and players, holding responsibilities in practice and game preparation, video exchange and filming practices and games.  He was a 2-year Varsity starter and was named First Team All-Conference and team MVP at Coxsackie-Athens High School just south of Albany, N.Y.

Eslinger on Briski -

“As a division I manager, Coach Briski learned the ins and outs of how to run a high-level program. He was around great mentors, and being from the northeast opens up even more recruiting opportunities for us.”
