Sarah Beene joined Caltech Athletics as the Head Athletic Trainer in the summer of 2021.

Originally from the San Fernando Valley, Sarah first fell in love with athletic training as an Athletic Training Intern while pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Biopsyhology at UC Santa Barbara, graduating in 2011.  In 2015, Sarah went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from California Baptist University. While working towards her degree, she gained experience from certified ATs from DI, DII, DIII, and secondary school institutions, including SCIAC's University of Redlands. She also completed her summer internship with the Seattle Sounder's Women (formerly of the W League and WPSL, now known as Sound FC).

After obtaining her board certification and graduating from Cal Baptist, Sarah was hired at the University of Redlands as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Sarah also gained experience with the US Soccer Olympic Development camps, USA Water Polo, Michael Jordan Flight School, Inland Empire Football Elite, and served as an Associate Athletic Trainer for the LA Lakers during the 2019 NBA Summer League.

While at the U of R, Sarah was instrumental in emergency preparedness, teaching CPR and first aid to various campus groups, and training the Public Safety team in Stop the Bleed skills. She also was very active in collaborating with the Counseling Center to bridge the gap and provide mental health resources to student-athletes. Sarah hopes to continue creating relationships with campus partners as she transitions to her Caltech appointment.

With the experience of six years in the SCIAC, Sarah moved to Caltech to begin her career as the Beavers' Head Athletic Trainer, using her wealth of experiences to oversee the Sports Medicine Department, act as the NCAA Health Care Administrator, and ensure student-athletes are provided the best, evidence-based care possible.

Sarah is a professional member of NATA, FWATA, and CATA, and serves on multiple district 8 committees. She also serves as a clinical preceptor for the Cal Baptist and Cal State Fullerton Graduate Athletic Training Programs. Sarah received the CATA and NATA Lifesaver Awards after providing life-saving CPR to a student-athlete in 2019.

Sarah recently moved back to her hometown with her husband, Zach, and their 2 dogs, Major and Torvi.
