The Caltech men played their second home overtime thriller in
two weeks. The Beavers took the Leopards to OT in
an upset bid, being outscored 12-6 in the extra frame
falling 80-74. ULV made just two field goals in overtime
but connected on all 8 free throw attempts to deny the
Beavers' a long-awaited conference "W".
Caltech trailed at the half 37-38 and
eventually pulled even at 68-68 at the end of
regulation. A trio of Beavers scored in double
figures: forwards Travis Haussler and Bryan Hires were a
potent 1-2 punch in combining for 58 points. Haussler, the reigning
SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week, totaled a game-high 30 points while
Hires added 28 points along with Matt Delatorre scoring 11.
Just 10 days earlier (2/6), Caltech fell to the
Bulldogs of the University of Redlands 97-88 in OT, the
score was tied 84-84 at the end of regulation time.
