Beavers Bit Again By Turnover Bug at Cal Lu

The Beavers took a beating in their second attempt at competing in SCIAC play this week. Traveling to Thousand Oaks to meet up with the Regals of Cal Lutheran, Caltech had moments of greatness in a game where they could not manufacture shots they needed to stay competitive. Tech found only 19 opportunities to put baskets in the scorebook to Cal Lu's 43 attempts in the first period of play. The lack of shots hindered Caltech in more than simply putting points on the board. At one junction in the game, the Tech foul count stood at 5 with a Regal count of zero. Caltech was unable to raise the aggression level they needed to put Cal Lu on its heels defensively. The result was a lack of opportunities on Tech's end of the floor for the officials to blow their whistle.

Turnovers are still a major issue for Tech as they suffered five unforced mistakes in the first three minutes of the game. It would be almost four minutes into the game before Caltech got off its first shot, and another 90 seconds before the first bucket of the game lit up on Tech's side of the scoreboard. The Beavers turned the ball over a total of 36 times in their 40 minutes of play.

In complete contrast to their woes on the offensive end of the floor, Tech did a great job on the defensive end through the first half. The Regals experienced a drought for almost six minutes, as Tech held them scoreless possession after possession. The lock down defense was Tech's best defensive stretch of the season to date. At the final buzzer, the Beavers had kept Cal Lu to only a 34% shooting night.

Lisa Yee led the Beavers with her efforts, grabbing 14 rebounds and a team high, 7 points. Yee finds herself averaging 15 boards a game two contests into the conference schedule. Krissy Dahl added six points and found three blocked shots.

Caltech gets its next opportunity to redeem this evening's results by hosting the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands in a two game home stand next week. The Bulldogs come to Braun Athletic Center on Thursday, January 14th for a 7:30pm tip off.

Then Saturday, January 16th, Tech squares off against Claremont Mudd Scripps in a double header with the men. Tip off is at 5pm.

GO TECH!!!
