Caltech Falls to Whittier in 2011 Finale

WHITTIER, Calif. – In the final match of the season, the Caltech women's volleyball team fell to SCIAC foe Whittier 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-19) at the Graham Athletic Center.

Whittier finishes their year with a 12-18 mark overall and 8-6 in league matches while the Beavers close the campaign at 0-21 and 0-14 respectively.

The Poets offensive was effect all night as they posted at least 12 kills in each set. The home squad set the tone in the opening frame as they tallied 14 kills and a .474 hitting percentage. In the second set they notched a .600 hitting percentage with 12 kills.

During the final stanza the team squads were knotted at 10-10 before a Poets scoring run put them up 15-11. Caltech fought back and their deficit down to two points at 16-14 but couldn't nudge any close. Whittier closed the match with a 14-kill, .556-hitting percentage performance in the final set.

Alayna Rigo had a match 11 kills while team mates Alyssa Sialaris and Katie Heard pitched in nine kills each during the Poets victory

Whittier also used an effective service effort to aid in their cause. The Poets tallied 13 services aces in the three set sweep.

Paige Logan had a Caltech best four kills. Teri Juarez closed her Beaver volleyball career with three kills.
