Strong Hitting Performance Lifts #15 Cal Lutheran Past Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran posted a team hitting percentage of .593 en route to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-7, 25-11) victory over Caltech on Tuesday evening in a SCIAC match-up at the Braun Athletic Center.

The win lifts the Regals record to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in conference matches while Caltech falls to 0-8 and 0-4 respectively. The Regals entered the match ranked 15th in the nation in the most recent AVCA coaches poll.

Cal Lutheran hit .647 in the opening set and backed that up with a .667 mark in the second frame. The visitors closed out the match by posting a .474 hitting percentage in the final set during the sweep. Cal Lutheran came into the match averaging 13.04 kills a set. The 13th best mark among all Division III schools.

Leading the way for the visitors was Kylie McLogan. The first year player tallied a match high 10 kills on 13 attempts as she posted a .692 hitting percentage.

Jackie Russell and Jena Chavez directed the efficient offense as the duo had 20 and 13 assists respectively.

Katie Ching, Rebekah Kitto and Teri Juarez each had three kills for the Beavers.

Caltech faces Pomona-Pitzer on Friday evening in Claremont, Calif. at 7:30 p.m.
