Box Score WHITTIER, CA – Whittier started strong in each set and never looked back in posting a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-15) win over Caltech on Friday evening.
In the second to last match of the season for the Beavers, they couldn't stop an effective Poets offense.
With Caltech up 2-1 early in the opening frame, the Poet quickly shut down the Beavers by scoring 13 of the next 14 points to a 14-3 lead. The Beaver couldn't get their deficit under double figures the rest of the way.
Whittier kept the pressure on in the second set as they jumped out 14-3 lead and continued with the momentum in grabbing a 2-0 edge in the match.
The story for the match stayed similar in the third stanza with the Poets holding a 12-3 edge. Caltech got their deficit down to nine points but couldn't pull any closer.
Catherine Jamshidi had a double-double for the Beavers with an 11-kill, 14-dig performance. She had a match high in digs.
The Beavers conclude their season on Saturday night with a trip to #8 Cal Lutheran. The match starts at 6 p.m.
