Jamshidi Nears Career Kills Record Versus Chapman

Box Score

PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2015) – Senior Cat Jamshidi (Burke, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary School) smacked 10 kills to come within single digits of the Caltech women's volleyball career kills record in a 3-0 defeat to Chapman University on Tuesday night.

The Panthers improve to 9-10 overall and move above .500 in the SCIAC at 6-5 while the Beavers drop to 2-18 (0-13).

Chapman held an early edge in the first set before Caltech pulled back within one at 10-9 and hung around until a set-ending 10-2 run gave the Panthers the 25-16 victory.  The second set began similarly to the first, with Chapman surging ahead 17-5 before Caltech's offense got going.  The Beavers rallied to post a 6-1 run but it was too little too late as the Panthers claimed the 25-15 win and cruised to a 25-8 third set to clinch the match.

Jamshidi completed her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs, while senior Harinee Maiyuran (Irvine, Calif. / Arnold O. Beckman) made 12 assists and freshman Subhadra Vetrivel (Redmond, Wash. / Lakeside) recorded four blocks.

Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will take on the University of Redlands (5-16, 1-10) this Friday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
