PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2016) – Freshman Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) smacked a team season-high 12 kills in a SCIAC match on a .286 hitting percentage as Caltech volleyball scored its most points against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges since 2012 on Friday night.
The Beavers sprinted out of the gates to the tune of an 8-4 lead thanks to five straight points with sophomore Sakthi Vetrivel (Redmond, Wash. / Overlake) serving. The Sagehens responded with five of their own unanswered to take the lead at 9-8 and outpaced the Beavers by nearly two points for every one en route to a 25-18 victory despite the defensive heroics of freshman Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon), who would finish with 10 digs.
Li continued to carry the offense throughout the match, but the Sagehens were ruthlessly efficient on their side of the net, hitting a whopping .353 and .478 in the final two sets to post 25-11 and 25-14 wins.
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers head to LIFE Pacific College (3-12) on Saturday, Oct. 15.
