EAGLE ROCK, Calif. (Oct. 28, 2016) – The Caltech volleyball team dropped a road SCIAC match against Occidental College, 3-0, on Friday night.
The Beavers took an early lead in the first set via a mix of kills and Tiger errors. The hosts fired back, but the Beavers were able to hold off the comeback through a 5-5 tie before a 12-4 Oxy run put it out of reach, 25-11. Caltech fell behind early in both the second and third sets, which Oxy claimed 25-13 and 25-10, with the lone bright spot for the Beavers courtesy of a four-point run late in the second.
Freshman Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) led the team with six kills and 10 digs and classmate Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) also posted double-digit digs, with 11. Rookie Ellie Walker (Minneapolis, Minn. / Blake School) recorded her 12th straight and 21st overall match with double-digit assists.
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers host No. 22 University of La Verne on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m.
