Peng Drives Scoring Again Against Redlands

Box Score

PASADENA (Jan. 12, 2017) – Freshman Grace Peng (San Ramon, Calif. / California) led the scoring charge for Caltech women's basketball once again in Wednesday's home loss to Redlands University in SCIAC play.

The point guard tallied 20 points just one game after scoring 22 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripss Colleges. Peng made just one of her six three-point attempts but also used her quick first step to get to the free throw line 11 times. She made seven free throws and was leaned upon heavily throughout the game, playing all 40 minutes for the Beavers. Peng also led the way defensively by swiping two steals.

Caltech's strongest moments came in the first quarter when it jumped out to a 19-16 lead over the Bulldogs heading into the second frame. Senior Kate Lewis (San Antonio, Texas / Ronald Reagan) scored all seven of her points in that time frame. The Beavers would let up a 14-3 run throughout the duration of the second quarter, however and were unable to regain momentum for the remainder of the game.

Sophomore center Elizabeth Eiden (White Plains, N.Y. / Holy Child) came within four points of her first double-double of the season, finishing with six points and 12 rebounds to lead all players.

Head Coach Sandra Marbut and the Beavers will be gunning for their first SCIAC victory of the season when they host California Lutheran University on Saturday.
