Maruszko Goes 10-and-10 in Competitive Pomona-Pitzer Match

Box Score

POMONA. Calif. (Sept. 23, 2017) – Freshman Krystyna Maruszko (Redondo Beach, Calif. / Marymount) led Caltech Volleyball with 10 kills and 10 assists as the Beavers fell to host Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday.

Maruszko, who normally acts as a setter for the Beavers' outside hitters found her attacking stroke, attempting 23 attacks in the match, tied for a team best. Maruszko also led the Beavers in both categories and also came up with 12 digs while accounting for 12 of her team's 35 total points.

The Beavers had chances in the middle of the second set, at one point leading the Sagehens 13-9 on the heels of a kill from sophomore Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire). Caltech found itself in a similar position later in the set when a Maruszko kill set the team up with a 19-18 lead before the Sagehens won seven of the final nine points. While the Beavers did play from behind for much of the third set, they won seven of the match's final 12 points. Sophomore Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) ended up leading Caltech with 15 kills. She also registered four kills.

Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will return home on Tuesday, Sept. 26 to host Occidental College for a 7 p.m. game.
